In retaliation for alleged “terrorist” raids, Russia has initiated a wave of airstrikes targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the attacks, which employed long-range weapons, including hypersonic Kinzhal missiles and drones. The strikes were aimed at facilities involved in drone production, military equipment manufacturing, a military airfield, and an oil refinery. President Zelensky reported significant damage across multiple regions and described the attacks as among the most extensive the country has seen. The Russian military has also reported intercepting Ukrainian drones over its own territory. These events are escalating the conflict, with reports of casualties and damage to civilian areas. The Russian Defense Ministry has stated that the strikes are focused solely on military targets, while Ukrainian officials are appealing for increased air defense support from Western allies, including reports of the loss of a Western-supplied F-16 fighter jet during the interception of the strikes.
