In a significant development for regional security, the United States has greenlit the sale of advanced anti-tank and artillery systems to India, valued at approximately USD 93 million. This strategic procurement empowers the Indian Army with state-of-the-art weaponry designed for precision engagement. The package includes the highly effective Javelin anti-tank missile system, a ‘fire-and-forget’ weapon that allows soldiers to target enemy armor from a safe distance and immediately seek cover. The system’s infrared guidance ensures the missile autonomously pursues its target, even hitting vulnerable spots on tanks. Complementing this is the M982A1 Excalibur, a GPS-guided artillery projectile capable of hitting targets with remarkable precision from afar. These munitions effectively convert conventional artillery into precision-guided weapons. The US Department of Defense highlighted that these sales will enhance India’s ability to counter diverse threats and strengthen the Indo-US strategic partnership. The acquisition aims to replenish existing stocks, expand operational reach, and improve joint military interoperability, sending a clear message of enhanced defensive capabilities to adversaries.
