President Donald Trump has dropped a strong hint about a potential visit to India next year, expressing a desire to visit the nation. The US President also spoke highly of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referring to him as a “great man” and a personal “friend.”
During a press conference at the White House, Trump shared positive updates on his conversations with PM Modi. “He (PM Modi) largely stopped buying from Russia. And he is a friend of mine, and we speak. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a great man. He is a friend of mine, and we speak, and he wants me to go there. We will figure that out, I will go… Prime Minister Modi is a great man, and I will be going,” Trump elaborated.
Responding to a direct question about a possible trip to India in the upcoming year, Trump gave an optimistic reply: “It could be, yes.” The President made these remarks while discussing a new domestic initiative aimed at reducing the cost of weight-loss drugs.
The prospect of a presidential visit comes after previous reports suggested that Trump would not be attending the Quad Summit in India later this year, a decision reportedly linked to trade disputes. However, Trump’s latest comments indicate a potential reconsideration, highlighting the continuous engagement between the two countries on various fronts, including trade and strategic partnerships.
