In a sweeping move to enforce immigration laws, the U.S. government under President Trump has nullified around 80,000 non-immigrant visas since January. This significant number of revocations targets individuals who have committed offenses such as DUI, assault, and theft, alongside violations of immigration statutes and foreign policy rules. Offenses like DUI led to approximately 16,000 visa cancellations, while assault and theft resulted in 12,000 and 8,000 revocations, respectively. These serious offenses underscore the administration’s commitment to stricter enforcement. New applicants now face more rigorous vetting, including comprehensive social media monitoring and thorough background investigations, reflecting a robust approach to national security and immigration integrity. The State Department has also been actively reviewing existing visas.
