Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have reached a new high, with a video showing Afghan soldiers exhibiting captured Pakistani military trousers and uniforms going viral online. This display follows recent Pakistani airstrikes conducted within Afghan territory, aimed at what Pakistan claims are Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) bases. These airstrikes allegedly led to numerous fatalities.
Afghanistan’s response was swift and forceful. Afghan forces reportedly engaged Pakistani troops along the Durand Line, resulting in the neutralization of more than 50 Pakistani soldiers. Alongside the casualties, Afghan forces also seized tanks, weapons, and abandoned uniforms of Pakistani soldiers. The widely shared video focuses on the recovered trousers and other uniform items.
In the wake of these clashes and heavy losses, Pakistan declared a unilateral 48-hour ceasefire. The Pakistani Foreign Office expressed a desire for constructive dialogue to resolve the complex issues. Meanwhile, the Taliban administration in Afghanistan indicated that the ceasefire was a result of Pakistani appeals. Earlier, the acting Taliban Foreign Minister emphasized Afghanistan’s commitment to peaceful relations with all neighbors while simultaneously issuing a stern warning to Pakistan regarding potential ‘other options’ if peace efforts fail. Afghanistan continues to deny Pakistani accusations of sheltering TTP operatives.
