Paris – Amid warnings of a transforming global landscape, President Emmanuel Macron has exhorted Europe to shed its habit of acquiescence. In synchronized interviews with top European media – El Pais, Suddeutsche Zeitung, Financial Times, Le Monde – he rejected kowtowing to the US and rivals, demanding collective strength.
‘Europe, the moment to awaken has arrived,’ Macron stated bluntly. He foresee ‘endless instability’ and pressed for swift cohesion to counter it. Labeling the era a ‘profound geopolitical turmoil,’ he highlighted blows to trade and defense from shifting US-China dynamics.
His prescription: slash vulnerabilities, dependencies, and passivity. ‘Spectators become slaves,’ he warned, citing the ‘Greenland moment’ as proof of fickle allied priorities in NATO territories.
Europe’s power is real but its pace glacial, Macron observed. It requires amplified ‘common leadership’ to claim global superpower credentials. He spotlighted the Ukraine ‘Coalition of the Willing,’ led by France and Britain, as a blueprint for autonomous, potent security partnerships.
In a curveball, Macron urged Europe-led diplomacy with Moscow: smart, independent, and unburdened by naivety or Ukrainian impositions. ‘Safeguarding our interests means no delegations – not even to America.’
Macron’s forthright address signals urgency: in this high-stakes reconfiguration, Europe’s survival hinges on bold unity and strategic independence.
