New Delhi. With the announcement of the dates of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the political game has begun. All the leaders are busy changing sides as per their convenience in view of the future prospects. In this episode, his party leader Chaudhary Zulfiqar Ali joined the BJP on Sunday. At the same time, Democratic Progressive Azad Party leader Taj Mohiuddin is going to join the Congress again.
On Saturday, a day before formally joining the BJP, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party vice-president Choudhary Zulfkar Ali met Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Ali, a lawyer by profession, won the 2008 and 2014 assembly elections from the Darhal assembly constituency in Rajouri district on a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ticket. He served as a cabinet minister in the Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP-BJP coalition government from 2015 to 2018.
The coalition government collapsed in June 2018 after the National Party pulled out of the government. Several PDP leaders, led by former minister Altaf Bukhari, later founded their own party in 2020 and Ali was one of its founding members.
Taj Mohiuddin on the side of Congress
On the other hand, former Jammu and Kashmir minister and Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) leader Taj Mohiuddin has announced to join the Congress. He said, ‘I have been in the Congress for 45 years. I had left due to some reasons. Now I am returning home. I have no enmity with Azad sahab. We could not succeed as a political party. I am trying to bring Azad sahab back home (to the Congress). This is a national party. This party has given me respect.’
Congress is busy in bringing Azad along
In view of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, the Congress has started working for the homecoming of former CM Ghulam Nabi Azad. For this, senior leaders have been asked to talk to him. However, Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) spokesperson Salman Nizami denied this and said that for the last 2 weeks, false news of Azad joining the Congress is going on. These efforts are being made to break the party.
