A new chapter in India-Myanmar relations unfolded in Yangon with the launch of the SarsoBekman Building, a three-tiered literary powerhouse constructed under India’s aid. Priced at about 3.77 million dollars, it targets the safeguarding and advancement of Myanmar’s storied literary customs.
Hosted with pomp, the event saw Myanmar Prime Minister U Nyo Saw in attendance, complemented by a video tribute from India’s S. Jaishankar. The gathering included diplomat Abhay Thakur, ministerial delegates, literary elite, scholars, performers, and the Indian community in Myanmar.
Curated to reflect eras from Bagan to today—including colonial imprints—the venue boasts exhibit zones, archival collections, a small screening room, and versatile conference spaces for cultural engagements.
Positioned as a catalyst for literary and artistic vibrancy, the center leverages joint heritage in Buddhist texts and Pali works to enhance exchanges. It exemplifies India’s holistic partnership strategy, creating lasting avenues for dialogue and innovation.
Ultimately, SarsoBekman symbolizes the deepening friendship and civilizational affinity between India and Myanmar, fortifying bilateral harmony for generations ahead.
