During a discussion at Chatham House in London, Muhammad Yunus, who formerly led Bangladesh’s interim government, revealed that he had asked Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to block Sheikh Hasina from giving speeches to the people of Bangladesh and her Awami League supporters while in India. Yunus stated that he brought up the issue with PM Modi directly, seeking his intervention. Yunus said he told Modi, “You want to host her? I cannot force you to abandon that policy, but please help us in making sure she doesn’t speak to Bangladeshi people, the way she is doing.” Yunus shared that he felt the situation was causing resentment towards India. He added that when he inquired whether his request was fulfilled, the response was negative, with the Prime Minister citing the inability to control social media.
